Wheels for Winners free community-based repair events started in 2016…
because bikes needing repair are unsafe or unrideable.
Our community partners, including Bayview and Kennedy Heights Community Centers, and Centro Hispano, told us a major barrier to cycling for their residents and members was getting their bikes repaired. Many people could not afford to get their bikes fixed and lacked the do-it-yourself skills. This causes many children and adults to ride unsafe bikes or give up on bike riding.
As a solution, Wheels provides free, community-based repair events in spring, summer and fall. In 2023 we did 30 events fixing hundreds of bikes. We inspect and repair bikes for free, so they are rideable and safe!
Wheels partners with Dream Bikes, Wisconsin Bike Federation, Madison CycleWorks, Budget Bicycle shop and others on repair events throughout Dane County. The number of events and bicycles repaired have increased dramatically since starting in 2016.

2025 Schedule
Check back in April for the early 2025 free repair events schhedule. Anyone can bring their bike for a free inspection, adjustment or repair. Free Repair Events are outdoors under the Wheels for Winners’ tent.
